In class today, we were shown a video of an interview with Neil Degrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist. After the video one quote stood out for me quite a bit more than most. "And that means the day will come...where the only known galaxy at that time will be the milky way. Restoring the state of mind that existed of our universe before 1920."
This really made me think about how, the discoveries that we make today will be all the future generations will have to rely on when the things we've seen will no longer come to pass. The implications of that is startling, as our present discoveries of the universe around us, become almost like fiction, something that we could never confirm, but must believe according to what our ancestors are saying. For me, that makes me think that the idea of other galaxies, will almost become like religion. Something amazing that we can only prove through our words and texts, and hope that people will take our word for this. We have no physical evidence of gods, but we believe in it because that's what our ancestors thought was real. Maybe I'm a bit crazy for thinking about religion from a science quote, but that just seems to be where my thoughts wandered.
